I have a love/hate relationship with DXL. If you go there during an off time and can get a sales rep, they are awesome. I purchased a few pair of jeans from them a month or so ago, I went during a slow time, had a very attentive sales rep, and was in and out in under 30 minutes.
Their customer service is amazing, I'll definitely give them that. I just don't see how there business model is sustainable. I watched another set of customers walk out with me today. If things change in the future and they get the staff to match the demand I may try them again, until then it's online shopping for me.
Rolo was our salesman and he helped my husband find a decent, affordable pair of sneakers. He made us feel right at home, even offered us bottled water! Definitely will keep coming back, we left very happy.
Their clothes are very good quality. Sometimes you don't get that when purchasing big men's clothes at other places.
Here's the issue the sales reps are few and they do EVERYTHING. They don't even have dedicated cashiers, the sales rep has to check you out. On my first attempt they had a total of 2 sales reps working, today they just had one. If you know what you want and can get to it this won't be a factor, but if you need shoes from the back room, or to use a changing room, etc. you will need to wait for a rep which can be anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on how busy they are. I have a 1 hour lunch and cannot spend half of it waiting on a rep, that would leave me about 10 minutes to try on the shoes, pay, and get out of the store to make it back to work on time.
Love the staff! They are very personable and knowledgeable and have always helped me find clothes that look good and fit well. Also, I am more of a big and short person, rather than big and tall and I would still recommend DXL for people with a similar body type. Their seamstress is very experienced and does high quality work and has a pretty fast turn around. The hems on everything I have had hemmed have looked great and not ripped or loosened over years of daily wear. If they ever do though, DXL has a policy the you can have the item re-hemmed for free, which is a nice comforting guarantee to have when I have to wear my hemmed slacks every day for work.
Unfortunately getting a sales rep is NOT the norm. In the past week I've tried twice to go in and buy a new pair of dress shoes for work. Both times I had to swing by on my lunch hour. My most recent attempt was today and there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot. I sat in the shoe area for a while both times (about 10 minutes the first time and several minutes my most recent attempt).
